Batman: The Animated Series TV Show

Any relatively big fan of Batman is or was a fan of Batman: The Animated Series TV show.  Or anyone who happened to be a kid during the period when the show aired most likely at least watched it a little bit.

Batman: The Animated Series TV show captured everything that we know and love about the Dark Knight.  It featured all of the best super-villains from the comics.  It revealed stories about Bruce Wayne and his past.  And best of all, we saw almost all of the cool weapons and other gadgets that have been identified as being Batman’s.

The show started in 1992 and ran until 1995.  The series was eventually re-named The Adventures of Batman & Robin.  As this newer title suggested, the show featured appearances by Batman’s trusty sidekick Robin, who is also known as Dick Grayson.

Batman: The Animated Series TV show had everything a true Batman fan could ever want.  The episodes were well-developed.  There were sometimes two-part episodes for the longer stories.  This show developed a foundation for the way I would view characters in the Batman universe for the rest of my life.  Characters with recurring appearances include the Joker (voiced by Mark Hamill, whom Star Wars fans know as Luke Skywalker), Two-Face, Poison Ivy, the Scarecrow, Commissioner Gordon, and Alfred.

I only have two qualms with Batman: The Animated Series TV show.  Some of the episodes focused quite a bit on some of the villains, and Batman/Bruce Wayne was a smaller part character in the episodes’ story.  The second negative aspect is the complaint that any TV show fan has: it should have continued longer.

The show is a favorite of many superhero fans, and I recommend anyone who hasn’t seen any episodes to give it a try.  Or if you have watched the show and are already a fan, check it out again.  You can watch any of the episodes online at Amazon, or you can get them on DVD.
