Marvel’s third Spider-Man movie put an interesting spin on the New Goblin, an important character in the Marvel universe, particularly in stories about Spider-Man. It is Harry Osborn, son of Norman Osborn, who becomes the New 
Goblin.

The first Spider-Man movie follows the comics with the death of Norman Osborn, the original Green Goblin. But in the comics, Harry basically puts on the same costume and tries to get revenge against Spider-Man for the “murder” of his father. In the movies series, Harry makes his 
own version of the Green goblin with a different costume and a slightly different persona. This was a good call on Marvel’s part. While superhero fans do like the continuation of battles between foes in subsequent movies, making Harry’s version of the Goblin a little different added some excitement to his character.
In the movies series, it may seem as if Harry lost his mind like his father. But really, he was in pain because of his father’s death and wanted revenge. His father’s death doesn’t justify his desire to kill Spider-Man, but at least his feelings are understandable. It was in the animated TV series that Harry became insane like his father. Perhaps this is why Marvel decided to create the New Goblin character for the movies, to distinguish the insane Harry from the one in the movies.
James Franco plays the character of Harry Osborn and his villainous side, the New Goblin, perfectly in the newest Spider-Man movie. Although many Spider-Man fans did not consider Spider-Man 3 worthy of being part of the canon, the New Goblin is a bright spot in the Marvel flick.
