Hide Your Face With the Dr. Doom Mask

As with other super-villain costumes, the Dr. Doom mask was most likely designed by Marvel to look fearful and intimidating.  When you compare it to the physical appearance of some other Marvel villains, I think the Dr. Doom mask was designed well.  It has helped give Doom a reputation for being one of the greatest villains in the Marvel universe.

Any discussion on this evil-looking piece of Dr. Doom’s garb requires a little history on its purpose.  Victor von Doom was the main enemy of the Fantastic Four in their comic series.  He was involved in sorcerous activity (despite the warnings against such activity by Reed Richards), and ended up injuring his face in an explosion.  He made himself his Dr. Doom mask to hide his face, along with a suit of armor.

Dr. Doom’s main appearances in the superhero universe is in the Fantastic Four comic series, although he made shows up as enemies of Spider-Man and Iron Man.  The first time I saw the hideous Dr. Doom mask was when the villain appeared in the episode Secret Wars: Doom, from the 1990s Spider-Man animated series.  Most recently, the Dr. Doom made an appearance on the face of Victor von Doom in both of the Fantastic Four films.

You can get a very realistic Dr. Doom mask for yourself at Amazon.  It’s actually made of steel, and it comes with leather straps and the green Dr. Doom hood.  Hopefully you don’t want it for the same reason as Dr. Doom did — to hide your face.  It is, however, a super cool-looking piece of villain gear, and I’m glad it’s finally available for purchase.  Check it out here.  If you don’t want to get a metal Dr. Doom mask but still want to look like the villain, you can get a vinyl mask that is much lighter.
