Clark Kent Costume

Superman may look nifty when he’s in his form-fitting, primary-colored suit, but what about the Clark Kent costume?  It seems as if Kal-El spends enough time in his Superman suit to actually call his other clothes a costume.  After all, when he’s in his Clark Kent costume, he’s posing as a human, and it’s the Superman costume that allows him to make the most difference in the world.

The traditional Clark Kent costume would be considered his garb used while doing his day job at the Daily Planet.  In all incarnations of Clark throughout his history (comics, cartoons, movies, etc.), he’s worn business clothing.  This usually means a dress shirt and slacks, and sometimes a tie and/or a suit jacket.  Wearing this Clark Kent costume is a pretty simple way for our superhero to blend in with human beings, but it sure has gone pretty well for him.

The change from the Clark Kent costume to the Superman suit has become one of the most recognizable scenes/clips in the superhero universe.  Clark usually has his Superman suit on underneath his reporter’s clothes, so he finds a place to get rid of his top layer.  The change often begins when Clark dramatically pulls apart his dress shirt to reveal the “S” shield of his super-suit (this makes one wonder how often Clark has to sew on new buttons from tearing apart his shirt so quickly).  A popular place for the Man of Steel to make his change from the Clark Kent costume was a phone booth.  But I’m guessing a 21st-century Superman would find these hard to come by.

The question now arises: “Where can you get your own Clark Kent costume?”  Obviously most of the components are basic items that can be bought at most clothing stores, but I would suggest a very cool alternative.  Amazon.com actually sells suit that is specifically made as a Clark Kent costume.  It has the suit jacket, slacks, dress shirt, tie, and even Clark’s glasses.  But it also has the top portion of the Superman suit.  Plus, the dress shirt is made with velcro closure so you can do the famous shirt-opening to reveal the Superman costume without losing any buttons!  The best part about this Clark Kent Suit is that it is very affordable.  You can wear it for Halloween, or if you’re feeling like saving people, to the office.  Check it out here.
